Long Time

It has been a long time since I wrote in this blog. Given that it is about gardening, perhaps I should update it as I have been doing a lot of gardening.

Garden Design and Planting

I spend hours during the winter reading books, designing my own garden, staring at my mulched raised beds waiting for spring. Now spring is here. This is the most excruciating time of the year, when my seedlings are growing but not ready to go outside yet, the soil is too wet to turn, and the nights are still too cold to plant seeds outside.

Email me if you want to have a great vegetable garden but don't have the time to design and plant it yourself. I can do all the planning, all the heavy lifting, then educate you in how to take care of it, quickly and easily. It will be something you want to show off to your friends!

Products and Services

I design organic vegetable and herb gardens using companion planting techniques. These aren't your typical row gardens but are instead a diverse mix of vegetables, herbs, and flowers for natural pest relief and weed control.

Since every project is unique, I will provide a fair estimate based on your square footage, your family's vegetable selection, and the type of work I will be doing.

Vegetable Garden
Currently I am offering a number of plans to fulfill a range of needs.

Plan A - I plan it, you plant it. I will visit your home, test soil, and make a sketch of your garden area and sun exposure. I will provide advice on how to prepare your site for planting and design a basic shape for your garden including splitting the area into beds for different types of vegetables that grow well together. Based on your vegetable needs, I will provide a detailed to-scale garden plan including companion herbs and flowers. Your plan will also include a harvesting schedule, rotation plan and recommendations for caring for and harvesting your plants.

Plan B - Go Camping Instead. After drawing up your plan, I will prepare your site (including turning soil, shaping beds, establishing walkways), buy plants and seeds, put them in the ground, and provide supports for your vegetable plants. You elect to help with the installation, just lean on a shovel, or not be present at all.

Plan C - Don't Lift a Finger All Summer. You have a magical garden in your backyard that requires no maintenance and no effort to harvest. It's like being a CSA member but without having to remember to pick up your share every week. You enjoy your garden's natural beauty and I do all the work all summer long. Ideal for families without a lot of free time to garden or shop farmer's markets but who love the taste of homegrown vegetables.

Salad Garden (spinach, lettuce mix, radishes, carrots, nasturtiums, cherry tomato, cucumber)
Superfoods Garden (beans, pumpkin, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes)
Basic Family Garden (tomato, basil, peppers, green beans, summer squash, winter squash + gourds/baby pumpkins for Halloween)
